As a Christian I believe in God, and I believe that the Bible is the perfect, inspired Word of God. Within this perfect Scripture, we are told about Jesus, who is God’s Son. Jesus not only lived on earth as fully man, but he was also fully God.
The Bible tells us that Jesus died on a cross for the sins of the world. This is what we call the Gospel or literally the “good news” because it is the greatest news the world has ever known! Why? Because we live in a broken world full of broken people who cannot help but hurt themselves and one another. Since the beginning of the world, humanity has needed a Savior to come and deliver us from this helpless state. Jesus is that Savior.
As a follower of Jesus, I believe that salvation from sin comes through faith ALONE in Jesus. I don’t have to do ANYTHING but accept the good news of Jesus’ death and resurrection. Through faith, my sins are put to death on the cross and I will be raised to new life, just like Jesus. Not because I am good, and not because I have earned it, but because I trust in God’s mercy and goodness. Rather than reject His offer, I trust in the sacrifice that Jesus made for me, and that is all that God requires.
So if you’re like me and you want to know God and be accepted and love by Him, stop trying to prove yourself and simply believe in the power of Jesus’ sacrifice to save you. That is a foreign concept in a world that is all about “being a good person” or earning God’s approval, but God is far more compassionate and merciful than we give Him credit for. He loves us all greatly and has already reached out to us–we must simply surrender to His love!
